Needling Aftercare

Medical Radiofrequency Needling is one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for long-term collagen renewal. The treatment activates fibroblasts in the dermis; the skin responds by building new collagen over the following weeks.

What most people underestimate: the collagen-building phase is where the real results happen. Supporting it well matters.

Here is the good news: aftercare is far simpler than the industry would have you believe. You do not need a special post-treatment skincare kit. You need a bit of discipline – and the right priorities.

1. What Aftercare Actually Requires

RF Needling works through controlled wound healing. The skin is particularly sensitive in the first 24 to 48 hours. After that, the main variable is sunlight.

Three things matter above all others:

Leave your skin alone. The most valuable thing you can do in the first 24 to 48 hours is interfere as little as possible. Your skin is doing its job. Let it.

Avoid intense sunlight for 10 days. UV exposure during the healing phase increases the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and disrupts collagen remodelling. This does not mean hiding indoors – it means avoiding prolonged, direct sun exposure on the treated area.

SPF. Every day. Without exception. This is the non-negotiable that carries the most weight. A broad-spectrum SPF 50+ applied consistently protects the healing skin and preserves the results you are building.

Think of it this way: the treatment sets the foundation. Aftercare is what allows the skin to build on it.

2. The Healing Trajectory – Practical Guidance

0 to 24 hours –Calm

The skin is in its initial healing response. Micro-channels are closing. Avoid touching your face. Skip makeup, active ingredients, and hot showers. A gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser is all you need. Use a fresh pillowcase the first night.

Day 1 to 3 – Protect

The skin barrier needs roughly 72 hours to fully re-seal. Through this window: cleanse gently with lukewarm water, or a mild, active-free cleansing milk or foam to remove SPF in the evening. Apply SPF 50+ from 24 hours onwards. Avoid excessive sweating, swimming, sauna, and direct sun exposure.

No active ingredients during this phase: no retinoids, no vitamin C, no exfoliants, no other acids.

Day 4 to 7 – Recover

Collagen synthesis has been underway from the start – by now, the skin is stabilising and new fibres are becoming structurally meaningful. Reintroduce products gradually and observe how your skin responds. If in doubt, your doctor will guide which products to reintroduce when.

Week 2+ – Rebuild

Full remodelling is underway. Your routine returns to normal. For the initial series, the first three needlings are spaced 5 to 7 weeks apart; the fourth follows 8 to 12 weeks after the third. After that, we recommend a quarterly maintenance rhythm.

3. Device and Technique Make a Difference

Not every RF Needling device works the same way. Newer-generation systems deliver energy precisely at the target depth, with minimal surface trauma – less redness, faster recovery, a shorter sensitive window.

The precise technique deployed by the doctor performing the treatment matters just as much for outcomes and the risk of side effects.

At everskin, we use an advanced, minimal-downtime device and have developed a rigorous training process designed to optimize results and comfort, while minimizing the risk of side effects. Our guests typically experience mild redness for up to 24 hours. Most return to their normal routine within a few days.

A Note on Summer

RF Needling in summer is possible. Everyday sun in Zurich is fine – as long as you are disciplined about protecting your face and avoiding prolonged direct sun exposure during the 10-day healing window. If you are not confident you can commit to that, it may be better to wait for the autumn months.

For those who want to keep building their Collagen Bank through the summer without any UV considerations: biostimulators are an evidence-based alternative with no sun restrictions and no downtime conflict.

Key Insights

The industry makes post-treatment care sound complicated. In practice, three things carry almost all the weight: leave the skin alone in the first 48 hours, avoid intense sun for 10 days, and apply SPF every single day. With an advanced device and the right medical expertise, the healing phase is shorter and more comfortable than most people expect.

For summer: stay disciplined, protect your skin, or choose a treatment that fits the season.
